The Story Behind My Quran Tracking Habit

Today, I want to share a personal story that took place more than 15 years ago. Something small but powerful shifted in my life.
It all started during one Ramadan while I was still a student in a Quran program at our local mosque.
I walked in one day and saw a table displayed—a simple progress tracking sheet. It had checkboxes for daily actions:
Praying in the mosque
Reading the Quran
Giving charity
Volunteering
It immediately caught my attention. I thought, “This is actually a great way to stay accountable during Ramadan.” It was a clear and visual reminder of what really matters each day.
Then a friend of mine, standing beside me, looked at the table and said something that stuck with me forever:
“Imagine if something like this is what we’re handed on the Day of Judgment. A record of everything we’ve done.”
We have bound every human’s destiny to their neck. And on the Day of Judgment We will bring forth to each ˹person˺ a record which they will find laid open.
˹And it will be said,˺ “Read your record. You ˹alone˺ are sufficient this Day to take account of yourself.”
His words really made me pause and reflect.
Right then, I decided to start tracking my Quran revision and memorization. I wanted to see: Am I being consistent? Am I doing well? Am I falling behind?
What I learned that month was something I’ve carried with me ever since.
A big reason we feel guilt is because we don’t have clarity. We don’t know where we really stand.
It’s like having a bank account—money is coming in and out—but you don’t have access to the bank statement. That uncertainty makes you anxious. But as soon as you see the numbers, you can start making smart decisions.
The same is true for our Quran journey.
When you track your daily progress, you gain clarity. You see where you're strong, where you're slipping, and what needs your attention. That awareness is powerful. It helps you grow.
My decision to track my daily Quran revision and memorization gave me structure, consistency, and most importantly, peace of mind.
Eventually, this habit didn’t stay limited to the Quran. I started using the same system to track other areas of my life. But Quran memorization and revision has always remained at the core.
It was the original motivation, and to this day, it remains my most valuable daily practice.
If there's one takeaway here, it’s this: don’t underestimate the power of tracking your Quran daily progress.
Clarity leads to progress.
Progress builds confidence.
And confidence keeps you moving forward.
